A custom-made guitar or bass

Every guitarist is unique, honing his/her technique and playing style over the years – and that calls for a custom-made guitar. Tailor-made not only includes visual elements like the body shape, the type of wood, the finish and hardware, but applies to the audible elements, too – such as the interaction between the type of wood and the choice of pickups in determining a particular sound. Other ergonomic aspects are also considered – like the feel of the neck, the body shape, the weight and the set up of the instrument.

So, what’s the process for commissioning a made-to-measure guitar?

The first stage is defining the project.

In this first step, we discuss your project together. You may have a vague idea of what you’re looking for, or some influences that are inspiring you, or perhaps you’ve made a sketch. Or you may have a very clear outline of what you want, down to the exact measurement of the neck.

Next, I do a 3D drawing of the guitar and present it to you for review. We then modify it until you’re satisfied with the result.

In conjunction with this first stage, if it’s possible, you could come and visit my workshop to try out the different models. I also have a test guitar which I can instantly change the pickups on (which I make myself), so that you can really find the sound you want.

A visit to my workshop will also give you the chance to see the different types of wood I have in stock and to discuss your project face-to-face.
